Generating Renewable Energy

The Rodeio Bonito Small Hydroelectric Power Plant, in construction, is a project of the Independent Clean Power Producer Velcan Energy - specialized in renewable electricity generation (hydroelectric power and biomass combustion).

The plant has an installed capacity of 14,7 MW, an assured energy of 8,8 MW and is located in the state of Santa Catarina (South Region of Brazil). The energy delivery is scheduled to the beginning of 2009.

Once in operation, Rodeio Bonito SHP will avoid the emission of 15.000 ton/CO2 per year, strengthening Brazil’s renewable energy generation complex and minimizing the use of fossil fuels. Once the project is registered by the UNFCCC, the carbon credits produced by Rodeio Bonito can be bought by European industrialists that have to comply with emission quotas of GHG (Greenhouse Gases).
