The Project

Rodeio Bonito SHP is located by the Irani River, in the areas of Chapeco, Arvoredo and Xaxim Municipalities, in the State of Santa Catarina (South Region of Brazil), 13km distant from Chapeco’s downtown (access through SC 283 road).

The axis of the dam/spillway is located in the municipalities of Chapeco and Arvoredo, 28,5 km upstream of the Irani River’s discharge, which is a tributary of the Uruguay River. The geographical coordinates are 27°06’38”S and 52°28’50”W.

Rodeio Bonito will use a gross head of approximately 27,60 m for power generation and a reservoir surface area of 78 ha (including the streambed) which reaches out Chapeco, Xaxim and Arvoredo.

The dam that will be constructed is a run-of-the-river type of approximately 28 meters, containing schematically a derivation spillway.

The hydraulic circuit is characterized by a hydraulic channel and two penstocks ; the generation installations include 2 generating units and 2 Kaplan–S turbines with an installed output of 7,0 MW each.

The installations are completed by the interconnection line – approximately 15 km extending from the Power Plant to the South Region Electric System – with a transmission voltage of 69 kV connected to the “Chapeco I” Substation.
